Las Vegas Maternity Session | Traveling Newborn Photographer

This Las Vegas maternity session took place at Red Rock Canyon during my travels to Las Vegas over the wintertime.  I was in town for a photography conference and knew that I wanted to schedule a few group sessions in the desert if we were able to make it happen.  A handful of fellow photographers who had traveled from different areas joined me and we met this drop-dead gorgeous soon-to-be momma for a stunning outdoor maternity session.  I don’t think I have ever had so much fun shooting in a new location.  Not only was this momma absolutely beautiful, but the location was to die for as well.  The afternoon brought in some cloudy overcast weather, and provided us with our dreamy scene and perfect lighting.  This was one of those sessions where it was almost impossible to cull down the gallery because there were just so many that I was head over heels in love with.  But for the sake of blogging and time, I’ve only included a handful of my absolute favorites.

If you are interested in scheduling a newborn or maternity session in your area, please contact us for details.

While visiting the Las Vegas area for a photography conference, a small group of photographers and I decided to set up an outdoor newborn session in Red Rock Canyon.  Watching the weather for several days before the trip, I knew it wasn’t going to be ideal; meaning it would be a little on the chilly side.  One of the other photographers made it a priority to have a custom newborn outfit made just for this special occasion.  She ordered something that would keep baby extra cozy and nice and warm in case the weather decided to say on the chilly side.  It was a good thing we planned ahead because the weather turned out just like we though.  Not quite 75 degrees and a little bit of wind kept things interesting, to say the least.  Luckily we were super prepared with lots of warm blankets, wraps and bonnets for baby.  I think even more challenging than the weather was the direct sun we had overhead.  In the middle of the desert, there weren’t a lot of options for finding shade.  So some of the photographers were tasked with the lovely chore of holding a nice big diffuser over the top of the baby to help block the sun.

This little girl’s session might have taken a little extra work from everyone to pull it off, but in the end, we got some great photos for momma.

One Year Session | Seattle Baby Photographer

My one year session with baby Quinn got off to a little bit of a rough start.  This sweet little girl wasn’t feeling her best when she came in and din’t want to have her photos taken. When scheduling milestone sessions, I make sure to communicate how important it is to parents that we schedule for baby’s happy time.  This is really vital to the success of the session.  And even when we make every effort to nail that window, sometimes it doesn’t work out.  This was one of those times, sadly.

We decided to reschedule her session and have her come back about a week later.  We scheduled for a different time of the day to increase our chances of success, and I’m so glad we did!  The second time Quinn came in we were able to capture a lot more of her true personality on camera.  I’ll share a few of my favorites from her session below.

I will admit, it’s pretty amazing being able to photograph these little ones again and again.  I get to watch them grow up and change and see their personalities come to life.  Quinn came in for her newborn session almost a year before and seeing her again really made my heart happy! I say it over and over again but it’s true: I have the best job in the whole world!

Boy Girl Twins | Seattle Baby Photographer

These boy girl twins were just about 4 months old when they came in for their session. 4 months is a fun age to photograph because unlike during the newborn session, babies are typically wide awake and engaged in their session.  These sessions tend to move a bit more quickly and the parents are usually pretty involved.  This session was like that times two!  Mom and dad were hustling to get these little guys changed and ready for every set up.  It took a bit of work and it was a little bit exhausting I’m sure!  But in the end, totally worth it because we captured some amazing photos.

These two were quite worn out toward the end of the session and they even dozed off for a few minutes, letting me snap a couple of beautiful sleepy baby portraits.  Sharing a few of my favorite images from this boy girl twins session.

Three Week Newborn Session | Seattle Baby Photographer

Three week newborn sessions don’t happen very often for me.  Usually, I’ve scheduled a newborn several weeks before their due date.  This way, mom and dad just let me know when their little one arrives and we get them in pretty quickly. On occasion, I have babies that need a little more time before they can come in for whatever reason.  This baby girl was almost four weeks old when she came in for her newborn session.  And even though she was a little older than most babies I photograph, she slept unbelievably well.

Mom had told me she really wanted to keep the session more natural.  She loved the portraits where baby was the sole focus and didn’t want to incorporate a lot of props.  Together, we chose backdrops that suited their style and the look they wanted to achieve and in the end, Lola’s gallery came together quite beautifully.  Sharing a few of my favorite images from sweet little Lola’s three week newborn session.
