Outdoor Family Newborn Session | Kirkland- Maple Valley Newborn Baby Family Photographer

It makes me so happy when babies make their appearance around a streak of great weather here in the Pacific Northwest.  In the spring time, we usually see a lot more rain than sunshine but that wasn’t the case this time!  When I scheduled this family newborn session and saw that we were going to have near 80 degree temps that day, I offered to shoot their family portion outdoors at a location near my studio.  Mom was more than happy to make it work and as a result, not only did we capture some really great family photos, but we also got a few newborn photos outdoors as well.  (If you’ve been following my blog posts, you’ve been seeing a lot of outdoor newborn photos because the weather has been so great lately.)  This family was so much fun to work with.  With four beautiful children under the age of 5, and a gorgeous mom and dad to photograph, I was thrilled to be the one holding the camera.  Below are a few of my faves from this family newborn session.

**my schedule is nearly full through the fall.  If you are interested in booking, please email me at dpotterphotography@gmail.com as soon as possible to ensure space on my calendar.

Sunset Beach Maternity Session | Seattle Newborn Baby Maternity Photographer

This mini sunset beach maternity session was thrown together on short notice.  My husband and I had been out of town for a few days and when I checked the weather schedule for the Seattle area, I noticed that there were a couple of warm days with beautiful sunshine headed our way.  I phone a good friend of mine who was 39 weeks pregnant at the time and asked her if she would be my model to shoot a few photos at Alki Beach at sunset.  Silly of me to not realize that would be dealing with a few challenges 1) Alki is INSANELY busy when the sun comes out; especially those first few warm days.  Traffic was a nightmare and people were everywhere.  EVERYWHERE.  2) The tide was in, so there was maaayyyyyybe 10 feet of ‘beach’ area to work with.  Couple that with multiple bodies every couple of yards down the beach…. let’s just say there wasn’t a whole lot of area to spread out for shooting.  3) At 39 weeks pregnant, most women are pretty much done being pregnant.  They are uncomfortable, not feeling their best, and sometimes having trouble moving around.  This was no exception.  The little one had positioned herself in such a way that her poor momma was having some major hip trouble. For this reason, we really needed to keep any walking or movement to a minimum.

All in all, we spent about 15 minutes shooting.  The sun had a strange haze over it so we didn’t quite stay until sundown, but the light was gorgeous and Julie looked amazing on camera.  Here are a couple of my favorites from her mini sunset beach maternity session.

Outdoor Newborn | Maple Valley Eastside Newborn Baby Photographer

When I noticed the streak of beautiful weather headed into the Seattle area, I knew I had to set an up outdoor newborn session.  I truly love all of my newborn sessions but there is something extra special about being able to photograph them outside. Of course, the weather has to be warm enough because babies can’t regulate their temperature.  It’s important to make sure they stay cozy and warm.

For this particular session, I rented a couple of lenses from our local camera store.  If you’re in the Seattle area and looking for a place to rent camera equipment, I highly recommend Glazers.  They are amazing and their prices are fantastic, too.  I had been curious to try a fisheye lens for an outdoor newborn session for quite some time, so when the opportunity presented itself, of course I jumped all over it! (You’ll have to leave me a comment below and let me know what you think!)

This little man was the perfect outdoor newborn model.  At just 8 days old and weighing around 8 lbs, Axton was a champ.  In the one hour we spent together, we moved through three different prop set ups and had time left at the end to get a beautiful photo of him with his momma.  Side note: mom did not plan on being photographed but OMG, she is so gorgeous, how could I not take a photo of them together?!

Here are a few of my favorites from this special little man’s outdoor newborn session.  Hope you love them as much as I do!

Family Newborn Session | Bellevue – Issaquah Newborn Baby Photographer

You guys, I have the most amazing clients; seriously.  When these guys came in for their family newborn session I just about died.  Their kids both had the most gorgeous heads of hair I think I have ever seen on two kids. Gavin was just 5 years old and I can tell he’s already an awesome big brother to his baby sister, Divina.  He was so great with her!  It truly was such a pleasure being given the chance to photograph this family and capture these precious moments for them.  And little Divina was such a trooper, too.  She posed beautifully and gave us lots of beautiful photos for their gallery.  I’m so excited to have her back in the studio in 6 months and being able to watch her grow!  Love this family!!

One Year Cake Smash | Maple Valley-Issaquah Newborn-Baby Photographer

A few weeks ago, a very special little girl came in to see me for her one year cake smash session.  I have been photographing this little one since she was still nestled inside her momma’s belly!  (Does my maternity session in the snow ring any bells?  You can check it out here.)  I couldn’t believe a year had already gone by since I had done her newborn session!  The crazy thing is, this little girl was born in April and around here, the weather usually isn’t so great.  But for some reason, every single session I have ever done with this family we have lucked out with some awesome weather!  Her newborn session was actually my very first time photographing a newborn baby outdoors.  Six months after she was born, we lucked out AGAIN in late October with an 80 degree day and captured some gorgeous images of her outside with her family during their fall mini session.  So here we are a full year after she was born and she is just as cute as ever.  Cake smash sessions are so much fun!  Check out the look on Aspen’s face when she sees her cake for the first time.  I feel so privileged to be a part of this family’s life and capturing these memories for them.
